Highlights of the Year

Anniversary event and Rebranding

10 years of Textiles Partnership

Anniversary event & signing of the declaration of intent

For a decade, the Textiles Partnership has been demonstrating how a strong multi-stakeholder initiative can anticipate necessary changes and pilot them in practice. Various stakeholders work hand in hand to implement corporate due diligence requirements and thus improve social and environmental conditions along the textile supply chain.

Under the mission statement ‘Because no single actor can do it alone – alliances to strengthen human rights and environmental protection worldwide.’, the Partnership celebrated its tenth anniversary in November 2024 in Berlin. Together with Development Minister Svenja Schulze, Parliamentary State Secretaries Dr Bärbel Kofler (BMZ), Dr Bettina Hoffmann (BMUV) and State Secretary Lilian Tschan (BMAS) as well as almost 130 high-level representatives from the economy, civil society, trade unions, standard organisations and producing countries, the jubilee event addressed the Partnership’s achievements and future prospects. Many milestones have been achieved in the last ten years, such as supporting over 10,500 small farmers in their transition to organic cotton. Another achievement is the improvement of labour and production conditions in more than 820 supplier companies. In addition, over 160,000 employees in supplier companies have received improved access to remedy.

At a marketplace, participants had the opportunity to discover projects and concrete results from Partnership members and partners and to exchange views on joint activities. In addition to exciting panels, the signing of a declaration of intent to strengthen local trade unions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) was a highlight of the event. The declaration affirms the need to recognise trade unions and NGOs in producing countries as legitimate representatives of rights holders and to integrate their perspectives into the Partnership’s work in an inclusive and participatory manner. It was signed by Svenja Schulze and numerous Partnership members. The signatories include Blutsgeschwister GmbH, Deuter Sport GmbH, Hakro GmbH, Karl Dieckhoff GmbH & Co. KG, KiK Textilien und Non-Food GmbH, Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG, s.Oliver Bernd Freier GmbH & Co. KG, Tchibo GmbH, Weitblick GmbH & Co. KG, FEMNET e. V., Health and Environment Justice Support e. V., INKOTA-netzwerk e. V., SÜDWIND e. V., Fairtrade Deutschland e. V., PUMA SE and ver.di – Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft.
